Do You Eat the Red Ones Last?

Azul was born on the night of a full moon, her battle-scarred mother heaving her last labored breath so that Azul could have her first. To the Hawthorne Shamans this series of events was a serious omen of things to come.

But dark times were just beginning. After Azul's birth the Brethren were shattered, scattered to the wind by the Hunter's League. Prior to Azul's birth, the Brethren never gathered in large numbers out of fear that this would happen, but the prophecy of Azul's birth had made them careless.

90% of the Brethren died that night and in the following weeks and among them all of the true seers and shamans. A small number escaped with Azul and she was raised on the run ever since.

Many blamed Azul, saying she was a bad omen and should be destroyed before more people die, but a small number kept her safe and hardened her into a killing machine. By the time she was eight, Azul was coming on hunts and killing monsters.

When she was 17, the last remaining leader of the Brethren picked her as his mate and soon after, Erik was born. When the leader died, Azul stepped up as ruler of the Hawthorne Brethren and they began to reform.
